4 Health Tips for Your Next Trip

From Kristin Meaux

Traveling is great! Right?! Whether it is a quick weekend get away or an extended stay. You deserve to enjoy some time away from your busy life. You probably need a vacation more than you know! If you have just started to focus on making healthier choices, a vacation can often set you back. Instead of starting a routine after your vacation or starting over, why not add in some easy healthy options to keep you on track and still enjoy vacation?

1. BYOS- Bring Your Own Snacks

We all have to eat and when you’re traveling or don’t have your own kitchen, the easiest thing to do is eat out. And what a treat that is?! Oh, breakfast? Let’s get pancakes! It’s lunch time already? I’m starving and will eat anything including all the chips and salsa. You get it. It can be fun and easy to let loose a little. Until it doesn’t feel good the next day or the next week when you get home. My number one advice for you is to bring your own snacks. For the car, for the plane, for those times you lose track of time and are desperate for anything at all! Bring your own snacks. Before you leave on your trip, pack things that do not need to stay cold. For example…

  • Apples

  • Carrots

  • Nuts

  • Energy Bars

  • Almond Butter Packets

All of these are also great for breakfast options. And your bonus point: It’s good for your wallet too! I’m not saying you need to eat only salad during your trip. Vacation is a time to enjoy. I’m saying, enjoy in moderation.

2. Walk Literally Everywhere

Walking is all you should do on vacation. Reason number one. Walking slows you down and removes the chaos of life. Vacation is supposed to be about relaxation, right? Reason number two. Walking is the best way to take in the sights. You might also get a feel for what it would be like to be a local. Depending on where you’re at! Reason number three. Walking is exercise in disguise! Or, just exercise to some people. Check out places close to your hotel. Is the coffee shop across the street? Take a walk instead of drive. It will take a few extra minutes and you’ll get some exercise in!

3. Add Exercise into Schedule

Whether you are into a good routine or just starting a fitness routine, exercise will help you feel so good. So, let me start by answering your excuses for exercise. Yes, you should just plan a few workouts. Stop with the excuses and put it in your schedule. You will feel better if you do. No, you don’t have to wake-up early to exercise. But, even if you have to wake-up early. You will feel better if you do. No, it doesn’t have to be a 45 to hour long class. It can be as quick as 15 minutes. Did you get that? 15 minutes. You will seriously feel better if you do. No, you don’t have to exercise everyday. Walking everywhere can also count as exercise. It’s movement and that is good for your body. Also, fitness can be a social thing! Invite your friends or family to try a new workout class, studio, or join them at theirs. Working out is more fun when you’re catching up. And you’ll feel better if you do!

But finally, Vacation is about feeling good. So do that and don’t stress.

Vacation is vacation! It should be a time to relax, enjoy and feel good! Fully enjoy the culture, the company and the experience while you’re away. But also, you have adopted healthy habits like eating better and exercise because you feel good after. You workout to feel good. You eat good food to feel good. So, don’t totally forget about your why for the habits you have at home.
